It’s the start of the New Year, a time when many seek ambitious fitness goals; but for some, a traditional gym setting can feel intimidating on both skill level and financial accessibility. The great news is Oklahoma City offers several different locations to help you get moving on your resolutions.
Outdoor Fitness Courts
Oklahoma City’s outdoor fitness courts provide an excellent way to try a variety of activities. They provide equipment and obstacles for bodyweight circuit training for people of all ages. If you want more direction when it comes to your workout, they offer a 7-minute program for a full-body workout. It can be accessed through the free mobile fitness court app.
Oklahoma City has five outdoor fitness court locations:
- Stars & Stripes Park, 3701 S Lake Hefner Drive
- Douglass Park, 901 Frederick Douglass Ave
- Wiley Post Park, 2021 S Robinson Ave
- Woodson Park, 401 S May Ave
- Boathouse District, 608 Riversport Drive
If you discover that you’re really enjoying the courts, you may consider becoming an ambassador for them. OKC Parks and Recreation is looking for ambassadors to help promote a healthy and active lifestyle among residents.
Recreation & Community Centers
Oklahoma City fosters connection, wellness and recreation through two outstanding community hubs: the Pete White Health & Wellness Center and the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, both operated by OKC Parks & Recreation. These facilities provide welcoming spaces for residents to stay active, connect with others and enrich their lives.
The Pete White Health & Wellness Center is designed to support the well-being of active adults of ages 50 and older. It offers a variety of programs and services, including fitness classes, health screenings, educational workshops and social events, creating a vibrant space for older adults to prioritize health and community.
In contrast, the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center serves a broader, multi-generational audience. With features like sports courts, activity rooms, outdoor amenities and engaging programs, it promotes physical activity, creativity and community engagement for people of all ages.
Together, these centers reflect Oklahoma City’s dedication to building a healthier, more connected and vibrant community.
Yoga in the Park
Practicing yoga at the Myriad Botanical Gardens has the added benefit of connecting you with nature. The Gardens offer a space of beauty and tranquility to help relieve stress and quiet your mind. Classes are open to all levels, whether you are a beginner or an experienced yogi.
