Take a step back in time to the Middle Ages as you explore the Medieval Fair of Norman on April 5-7 at Reaves Park in Norman, Okla. — one of the few free fairs of its kind in the nation. The Medieval Fair has entertainment for the whole family including minstrels, dancing, theater reenactments, jugglers, knights jousting on horseback and human chess games.
Established in 1977 by the University of Oklahoma English Department, the Medieval Fair began as a small one-day event on OU’s campus for students. The response to the event was positive and as interest grew, the event was expanded in 1993 to a three-day event beside OU’s Duck Pond and after outgrowing that space, it was moved to Reaves Park in partnership with the City of Norman.
Visitors can browse through more than 200 arts and crafts booths which offer unique, handcrafted items. Entertainment throughout the day includes a family-friendly juggling and comedy act, Jester Rejects, performed by twin brothers Kent and Kevin Mercer. You can also catch the farewell tour of Tullamore, a Celtic band known for their unmistakable sound. A Mirage Dance Company, a Middle Eastern belly dance and fire performance group, will also be performing at one of the six stages throughout the grounds.
The Heroic Knights of Old will perform a theatrical reenactment of a jousting event that will bring alive the stories of knights in shining armor and showcase their equestrian skills.
With a jam-packed schedule of the three-day event, you and your family will have nonstop entertainment. To view all the entertainment, vendors and schedule, visit the Medieval Fair of Norman’s website.
