With Spring around the corner, National Picnic Day is the perfect day to get out and enjoy the warmer, sunny weather. In Oklahoma City, there are plenty of beautiful spots to gather your family and friends to enjoy a picnic.
Scissortail Park – 300 SW 7th St.
In the heart of downtown OKC sits one of the city’s largest and newest parks. There are plenty of areas to choose from like the great lawn, the children’s play area or the pond. After your picnic, you can take a stroll on the nicely paved paths, rent a paddle boat or play a game of pickleball on the south courts.
Myriad Botanical Gardens – 301 W Reno Ave.
Oklahoma City has two incredible parks downtown. Myriad Botanical Gardens has 15-acres of beautiful landscaping with brightly colored flowers surrounding the park. After you enjoy your lunch, you can take in exotic plants and flowers inside the Crystal Bridge.
Will Rogers Gardens – 3400 NW 36th St.
If you’re looking for a serene park to enjoy your picnic, Will Rogers Gardens on the northwest side of Oklahoma City is a great option. One of the city’s historic parks, the 30-acre park features a rose garden and conservatory with a cacti and succulent collection.
Memorial Park – 1150 NW 36th St.
If you have high energy little ones, Memorial Park offers a children’s play area, tennis courts and walking path to use after the picnic. This park is a favorite of OKC families and a great place to meet new people.
Lake Hefner – NW Oklahoma City, between Wilshire and Hefner Rd.
Surrounding Lake Hefner in northwest OKC are numerous places to enjoy your picnic and take in the activity on the water including Stars and Stripes Park, Hefner Park, Lion’s Children’s Playground and Lakeshore Park.
