Construction has begun on the first two phases of MAPS 4 sidewalks across Oklahoma City, prioritizing walkability and safety for pedestrians across the city.
In total, the City of Oklahoma City is investing $61 million in city sidewalks, with over 35 sidewalks to be constructed across the city in 2025 and additional projects planned through 2031.
“Through MAPS initiatives and bond issues over the last two decades, we have reprioritized the pedestrian experience in Oklahoma City, which improves our city’s quality of life and our individual health,” Mayor David Holt said. “This willingness to invest in ourselves is allowing us to slowly change the way we interact with our city and provide options beyond just the automobile. And thanks to planning processes like the bikewalkokc master plan, we ensure that investments are made in the highest priority locations.”
The new sidewalks will include updated pedestrian crossings and meet ADA compliance standards, providing improved access to schools, parks and medical centers. Potential sidewalk amenities include trees, sustainable infrastructure, landscaping, drainage and public art.
“With MAPS 4, we are reshaping the future of our neighborhoods by providing critical infrastructure and investing in the quality of life for residents,” MAPS Program Manager David Todd said. “Oklahoma City is becoming a more walkable city, and these new sidewalks will improve accessibility and provide safe connections for pedestrians across the city.”
